Campaign-level Credit
Overview
Campaign-level Credit lets you grant credit that applies to specific campaigns for a defined period of time. You can use it to run promotions such as onboarding incentives for new advertisers, spend-boost offers, or targeted support for underperforming campaigns.
A credit is a standalone object that you create and assign to campaigns. Each credit has:
- A title.
- An amount.
- A start date.
- An optional expiration date.
- An assignment to one campaign, several campaigns, or all campaigns in an ad account.
Because credit is a standalone object, you can adopt it whether or not you use Moloco's billing features, and you can run several credits at the same time against the same campaign.
How credit behaves on your platform
| Your setup | What credit is | Effect on ad serving |
|---|---|---|
| Credit with Spend Cap | Credit that adds to the amount available for ad spend before the Spend Cap is reached. Credit is consumed before billable ad spend accrues against the Spend Cap. | A campaign stops only once both the Spend Cap and the credit are exhausted. |
| Credit on its own (no Moloco billing model) | A retrospective offset for reporting. Credit records how much of the ad spend you will not bill the advertiser for. | None. Ad serving considers only the campaign budget, so a credit running out does not stop a campaign. |
Availability
Campaign-level Credit can be used alongside Spend Cap, or on a platform that does not use any Moloco billing model.
It cannot currently be used together with the Wallet or Spending Limit billing models. Support for those models is planned. These two billing models offer account-level non-expiring credit support now.
To enable Campaign-level Credit for your platform, contact your Moloco representative.
Creating a credit
Credit is created and managed by platform users in Campaign Manager, in a dedicated Credit page under Billing. You need the Platform Owner or Platform Staff role to access it.
When you create a credit, you set:
- Title - a label to identify the credit.
- Amount - the credit value.
- Start date - when the credit becomes effective.
- End date - optional. A credit with no end date does not expire.
- Assignment - the campaigns the credit applies to.
Assigning a credit to campaigns
You can assign a credit to:
- A single campaign.
- Multiple campaigns, selected individually.
- All campaigns in an ad account. This includes campaigns that are created later, which effectively makes the credit an account-level credit.
A credit's dates are independent of the schedules of the campaigns it is assigned to, and independent of any Spend Cap schedule. A credit can start before or continue after a campaign runs.
Managing credits
The Credit list shows each credit's applicability, remaining amount, and status. Expanding a credit shows the campaigns it is assigned to and lets you edit it.
Credit statuses:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Scheduled | The start date has not yet been reached. |
| Active | The credit is in effect and available to cover ad spend. |
| Depleted | The full amount has been consumed. |
| Ended | The expiration date has passed. |
What you can edit: the title, the amount, the end dates, and the campaign assignment.
Editing rules:
- A start date cannot be changed to a date earlier than today.
- An end date must be later than the start date and the current date.
- Changing which campaigns a credit is assigned to takes effect the next day.
How credit is consumed
If your platform uses Spend Cap, credit is consumed before the Spend Cap amount.
For platforms without an MCM billing model, Campaign Manager does not calculate billable ad spend. To calculate it, subtract the credit used from the total ad spend reported for the same period:
Billable ad spend = total ad spend − credit used
When more than one active credit applies to the same campaign, the order is:
- The credit with the earliest expiration date is consumed first.
- If two credits have the same schedule, the older credit is consumed first.
Credits with expiration dates are consumed before credits without expiration dates.
Expiration
- A credit is effective until 23:59:59 on its expiration date, in local time.
- When a credit expires, any unused amount is forfeited.
- Ad spend incurred after a credit expires cannot consume that credit, even if the ad was served before the credit expired. If another active credit applies to the same campaign at the time the spend occurs, that spend can still be covered by the active credit.
- A credit with no expiration date remains available until it is fully consumed.
Paused and ended campaigns
- If a campaign is paused, credit stops being applied to it. If the campaign is reactivated before the credit's expiration date, credit application resumes.
- A campaign ending does not cause a credit to expire. The credit remains available for any other campaigns it is assigned to.
Reporting
The Credit page shows the status and usage of each individual credit, including how much of the amount has been consumed and how much remains.
Important notes
- On a platform with no Moloco billing model, credit does not add spending power and does not affect ad serving; it is a reporting-only offset.
- Credit assignment changes take effect the next day.
- A start date cannot be moved to a date earlier than today.
- Unused credit is forfeited at expiration.
FAQ
Does credit let a campaign spend more than its budget?
Only if your platform uses Spend Cap. In that setup, credit adds spending power and is consumed before billable spend accrues against the cap. On a platform with no Moloco billing model, ad serving considers only the campaign budget, so credit does not increase what a campaign can spend.
What happens when credit runs out?
On a platform with no Moloco billing model, nothing — the campaign keeps serving against its budget. Where Spend Cap is in use, the campaign stops once both the Spend Cap and the credit are exhausted.
Can I assign more than one credit to the same campaign?
Yes. When multiple credits apply, the one expiring soonest is consumed first, and ties are broken by whichever credit was created first.
Can I assign a credit to every campaign in an account?
Yes. Assigning a credit to all campaigns in an ad account includes campaigns created later, which makes it behave like an account-level credit.
What happens to unused credit when it expires?
It is forfeited. Spend that occurs after expiration cannot consume it, even for ads that were served before the credit expired.
Do advertisers see how much credit they have?
Not in this release. Credit is visible only to platform users in Campaign Manager.
Can I change a credit's start date after creating it?
No, start date is locked after credit creation.
